Mandarin essential oil is cold-pressed from the fresh peels of Citrus reticulata, a fruit cultivated in China for millennia before charming its way through Italy and the Mediterranean. Pressing rather than distilling preserves the peel's juicy, living character.

Among citrus oils mandarin stands out for its softness: sweet, mellow orange-blossom-tinged fruit with a faint floral hum and none of lemon's sharp edges. It folds beautifully into blends with lavender, chamomile, frankincense, and vanilla.
